John
(Jack) Martindale was one of Long Island, NY’s most versatile music
professionals, who, as a a
multi-instrumentalist
and a
comprehensive musician
for 40 years, performed on clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet,
french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion, piano, organ, and MIDI
keyboards in concert halls, libraries, and churches around the metropolitan
New York area. He performed and soloed with the Atlantic Wind Symphony,
Suffolk Symphony, Baffa Symphony, Eastern Suffolk Woodwind Quintet, Sayville
Musical Workshop, Airport Theater, Playcrafters, Carriage House Players,
Suffolk County Concert Band, American Concert Band, Quintaur Players, Jericho
Brass, "CanDo" Jazz Band, Offshore Winds, Eastern District Chorale, Theater Three, Moriches
Choral Society, and many other groups. He performed on radio and TV, toured
Europe and the US with musical ensembles, and made numerous studio
recordings. He was a composer-arranger, conductor, music consultant,
recording engineer, church organist, choir director, and music educator
throughout his career. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and SUNY
Fredonia and has a BS and Masters of Music in composition, music
performance, and music education. Over 250 of his students have become
professional musicians and teachers. Following his retirement
and relocation to Madison, IN, Jack has continued to perform in a variety of
venues with some very talented musicians and ensembles including the
Indiana University Concert Band, River Cities Concert Band, Signature Jazz
Orchestra, Soundz of Dixieland, and The Advocate Brass Band.
